Witness testimony links McVeigh, Nichols
May 2, 1997 DENVER (CNN) -- Witnesses in the Timothy McVeigh trial gave testimony Friday placing the defendant and Terry Nichols in Kansas, where prosecutors claim they worked together to plan the Oklahoma City bombing. Sharri Furman testified she rented a storage shed in Council Grove, Kansas, to a man matching the description of Nichols. Prosecutors say the shed is where McVeigh and Nichols stored 2,000 pounds of ammonium nitrate fertilizer used to make the bomb. Also questioned was Timothy Donahue, a Marion, Kansas, rancher and farmer who employed Nichols as a hired hand in 1994. "He worked for me for six months," Donahue said, adding that Nichols lived in a house on the ranch property, sometimes with his wife and baby daughter. He also identified a photograph of McVeigh with Nichols' house on the ranch in the background. Donahue said McVeigh came to the ranch to help Nichols move out in late September of 1994. Prosecutors allege McVeigh and Nichols stole explosives from a quarry in the Marion area as part of their plan to bomb the federal building. McVeigh and Nichols are charged with murder and conspiracy in that 1995 blast that killed 168 people. Nichols will be tried later.
