• Mosul tension: Tensions Wednesday ran high in Mosul after a clash between Iraqi Arabs and the Marines Tuesday resulted in the deaths of at least seven people near the city center. A senior Kurdish intelligence official told CNN that a crowd of people became infuriated when U.S. troops entered Mosul's main government building to set up offices and raised the U.S. flag. • Police force: Residents of Baghdad saw a new police force on the streets early Wednesday morning as soldiers with the U.S.-trained Free Iraqi Forces moved into the capital city to restore security. About 120 soldiers armed with AK-47 assault rifles arrived to prevent looting and other crimes. Full Story
• Surrender in Ramadi: The Iraqi army's 12th Armor Brigade surrendered in central Iraqi city of Ramadi on Tuesday, ending organized resistance there, said Brig. Gen. Vincent Brooks at U.S. Central Command in Doha, Qatar on Wednesday. An element of the 3rd Infantry Division accepted surrender of the brigade, which had been defending the main road between Jordan and Baghdad.
• Abbas extradition: Italy wants to extradite Abu Abbas, a convicted Palestinian terrorist who masterminded the 1985 hijacking of the Italian cruise ship Achille Lauro on which a wheelchair-bound U.S. citizen was killed. Abbas, was captured by U.S. Special Forces in the outskirts of Baghdad on Monday, U.S. Central Command said Tuesday. Full Story
• Direct action: Brooks also said Wednesday that "direct action missions" are ongoing throughout Iraq to locate former regime leaders and to search former regime facilities, including a search Tuesday by coalition Special Operations forces of an Iraqi intelligence service training facility.

• Baghdad bombs: U.S. soldiers uncovered Wednesday what they called a terrorist bomb-making facility in Baghdad filled with enough TNT and other components to destroy three city blocks. Soldiers with the 3rd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division, were led to the abandoned residential complex by an Iraqi farmer, said brigade commander Col. Mike Linnington.
• Museum under guard: U.S. soldiers were standing guard Wednesday morning at the Iraq Museum in Baghdad, where widespread looting broke out last week. Full Story

• Heading home: U.S. Central Command has started releasing Air Force planes from duty in the region, Pentagon officials said. A small number or B-2 Spirit stealth bombers flew home to Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri last week and a number of F-117 Nighthawk stealth fighters have returned to Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico. • Carriers leaving Gulf: The U.S. Navy's presence in the Persian Gulf also will be scaled back. The USS Kitty Hawk and USS Constellation could leave the Persian Gulf in the next several days, according to U.S. Central command. Officials also said one of the two carriers in the Mediterranean Sea, the USS Harry S. Truman or the USS Theodore Roosevelt, could depart soon.

• Wounded: At least 495 U.S. service members have been wounded. No numbers are available for British forces.
• Iraq: Iraq has not released details of military casualties. U.S. military officials have reported thousands of Iraqi military deaths. Abu Dhabi TV, quoting official Iraqi sources, reported that 1,252 Iraqi civilians have been killed and 5,103 wounded. CNN cannot verify those figures.
