Matt Colver was traveling down the San Juan River in Southern Utah when he saw a bighorn sheep standing on top of the canyon terrain while the other sheep drank water below from the river. "He was obviously the lookout," he said.

During the summer, Iceland puts on a splendid show. Reykjavik resident Halldor Sigurdsson captured this photo of a spectacular strip of sunlight draped against a peak near the village of Vik, located in the southernmost tip of Iceland. He said he took this and other pictures during a summer vacation in 2011. "Maybe the photos explain why the astronauts that went to the moon came first to Iceland in 1967 to practice their lunar trip," he said.

While visiting Boulder Beach in South Africa, Ron Rivers saw a little penguin peering out from under a boardwalk. He says the penguin wasn't trapped and was able to join the rest of his colony later.

Uluru, otherwise known as Ayers Rock, is a large sandstone rock formation in Northern Territory, Australia. Anusha Mookherjee took this photo back in 2011 and said the visit was calming. "There is absolutely no noise pollution, and only families sitting around waiting for the sunset," she said.

A local dog naps on one of the beaches of Havelock Island, located in the Bay of Bengal. The island "is a very laid-back place with gorgeous beaches and great diving spots," said Tomaz Bradesko, who shot this photo. While traveling near his home, Lee Gunderson photographed a sunset shinning over Alberta, Canada. "Rural Alberta has so much to offer to those who like to wander," he said.

This elephant "proceeded to walk up to me and sniffed me with her trunk. She almost sniffed the end of my lens!" said Christopher Cromwell. "Once she got a good sniff of me, she seemed to calm down and I snapped this photo. It was amazing to have this massive yet gentle creature seem to accept my presence with her."

David Lee managed to snap a photo of two of the ubiquitous needlefish in Kayangan Lake before they took off. "They are as curious as they are skittish," he said.

While hiking on the glacier Svínafellsjokull in South Iceland, iReporter Erin Ramos captured this brilliant view of sunlight piercing through the clouds overhead and reflecting off the ice. "There was a beautiful contrast between the highlights and shadows. I couldn't have asked for better weather," Ramos said.

"One gets a feeling of living history in Malta," said Alan Patrick Watts, who shot this photo in the Mediterranean island nation's capital city of Valletta. It "has a huge concentration of historic sites."
